Hmmmm.... Saw the movie and it was...........

Uhhh. It's hard to explain...
Okay, no, this isn't a "Books vs. Movies" thing. I've read the Great Gatsby, as I'm sure any student in the American Education System has... and I've seen it adapted into film before.
But this film.... hurts me.
It has a good middle, and a good end, BUT THE BEGINNING CAN SUCK A BIG FAT DONKEY COCK!
I'm sorry, "Old Sport" lost my temper.

But I swear, the beginning of the film was such a cluttered mess, I would of walked out of the theater if I wasn't spending the day with my Grandparents for mother's day.
First of all: The WHOLE beginning is on Fast forward. Constantly. It DOES not slow down at all. There is nearly nothing established near the beginning. The film does a HORRIBLE job of making you want to care about any of these characters. The movie is narrated by Tobey Maguire who plays Nick Carraway, Gatsby's Friend and the narrator of the book. Now, this is probably the director or scripts fault, and not Tobey's, but the whole movie goes like:
"This is Daisy."
"This is Joe, oh yeah he has a mistress"
*Party Scene*
*Insert Dubstep*
"Gatsby is my neighbor. He's kinda odd"
*Insert Party and dubstep here*
"I met Gatsby"
*Insert Party and Dubstep here*
"Gatsby and I became friends"
*MOAR DUBSTEP*
I thought the WHOLE movie would be like this. There is nearly no time at the beginning to slow down and just let scenes play. I thought it was a horrible choice using Modern Day music for a period piece. I know it's the "Slightly modernized" version of Gatsby, but really, was all that Dubstep and Techno really necessary? You know how long that this goes on? For about thirty minutes of the film. I'm pretty sure. Fifteen minutes would of been fine, but thirty minutes of party scenes and Tobey monolouging about HOW things happened as opposed to SHOWING how they happened, the movie was starting to wear on my sanity.

Even when we finally meet Gatsby, it takes FOREVER to finally have some establishing scenes. There was a really Poor job of building the characters and why should anyone care about them.
THEN FINALLY, the movie lets up and finally BREATHES as soon as "Nick" invites Daisy for tea with Gatsby. THEN scenes play out, and THEN character development happens THEN I can care and THEN I finally enjoyed the movie.
But honestly, Fuck that beginning. Thirty minutes of unnecessary music montages, padding and monolouging. It's painful, and not fun. Only when Gatsby and Daisy have tea is where the REAL movie starts and the music video ends.
I can understand what they were trying to do. I mean I get it. "Living in the fastlane/highlife" and Daisy puts a pause on everything, but they could of done it Soooooooo much better.
And I really hated that they used modern day music for a majority of the party scenes. Mainly because it's obvious that's not REALLY what they're listening to.
Get some "Minnie the Moocher." in there. It's accurate.

I mean I loved the movie, but God damn, how can a beginning of a film go so fast, and drag so long?
